Are you one of the many parents across the world this summer caught in the Fortnite trenches?
Well, you’re not alone. With over 125 million people playing the game worldwide Fortnite fever has taken hold in homes across the globe. Here are 5 handy Fortnite Parents Tips
What is “Fortnite” and where did it come from?
“Fortnite” was published by North Carolina-based studio Epic Games and released in “early access” form last summer. That means it’s technically still in development, even though you can purchase it now for $59.99. The game is what’s known as an open-world survival game, in which players collect resources, make tools and weapons, and try to stay alive as long as possible.
The game is set on modern-day Earth, but most of humanity has disappeared. One of the game’s core mechanics is collecting materials to build protective fortifications.
A few months after its initial launch, Epic Games dropped “Fortnite Battle Royale,” a free mode using assets and gameplay elements from the main game in which 100 people square off against each other in a fight for survival — with the last living player crowned the winner.
This is when “Fortnite” really started to take off — 10 million people were playing within weeks of its release. The battle royale mode is what remains incredibly popular and what most people are talking about when they talk about “Fortnite.”
The Momo Challenge
In this video, we share some helpful tips for Parents who have concerns about the Momo Challenge, The Viral Hoax.
What is the Momo challenge?
According to lore, the Momo challenge is a viral game shared on messaging services like WhatsApp that goads young children into violence or even suicide. Images of the devilish bird-lady supposedly pop up with creepy messages and commands that are said to escalate to extreme violence and horror.
Other iterations of the story claim to feature the terrifying image spliced into children’s programs like Peppa Pig or video games like Fortnight in videos posted to YouTube. Even more news reports say the challenge has spread to Snapchat.

Wayne says: “Technology has driven bullying to a new level. Young people are immersed in online socialising and it here that cyber bullying is rapidly increasing via social media platforms, gaming communities, texting and emailing. Cyber bullying by its nature surrounds teens 24/7 and can have a devastating effect on the young person.
‘In fact, recent reports* cite one in thirteen 11-16 year olds experience cyber bullying. As a professional working in this sector and lecturing young people on social media, I felt a responsibility to get involved in Anti Bullying week and share my experiences and insights with parents and educators to help young people protect their online reputation and promote positive use when socialising online”
