Volkmar Denner has been chairman of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH and a limited partner of Robert Bosch since July 1, 2012. Mr. Denner’s responsibilities include corporate strategy, corporate communications, and real estate and facilities. Volkmar is also responsible for the Bosch Healthcare Solutions GmbH subsidiary.

Born in Uhingen, Germany, on November 30, 1956, Volkmar Denner is married and has three children. After taking his university entrance examination in 1975, he studied Physics at the University of Stuttgart, taking his diploma examination in 1981. After a research stay in the U.S., he was awarded a doctorate in physics (Dr. rer. nat.) by the University of Stuttgart in 1985.

Volkmar has been the Chairman of The Board of Management of Robert Bosch GMBH since July 1, 2012 and as a Member of Management Board since January 1, 2006. In fact, he has been Limited Partner of Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG since July 1, 2012. Denner’s corporate responsibilities at Robert Bosch include Corporate Strategy, Corporate Communications, Senior Executives and Real Estate and Facilities. He is the chief technical officer, has corporate responsibility for Research and Advance Engineering, Coordination Technology and New Business Fields and is responsible for Bosch Software Innovations and Healthcare Telemedicine. He is Responsible for Bosch Healthcare Solutions GmbH and Robert Bosch Venture Capital GmbH. Denner served as President, Automotive Electronics Division of Bosch Group since 2003. He served as Director of Engine ECU Development of Bosch Group since 1998. In addition to his responsibilities as Director of Engine ECU Development he served as Product Manager for Engine ECU’s Executive Vice-President Sales and Development, Semiconductors and Electronic Control Units Division since 2000. Volkmar Denner served as Director of Sales, ECU Development and Systems Application, Gasoline Engine Management Division of Bosch Group since 1994. He served as Department Head in Integrated Circuit Development of Bosch Group since 1991. Dr. Denner served as Department Head in Power Semiconductor Technology Development of Bosch Group since 1989. He worked at Power Semiconductor Development, Semiconductors and Electronic Control Units Division of Bosch Group since 1986. He serves as a member of the managing board of the VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry), a member of the advisory board of RA Rohstoffallianz GmbH, a German alliance for raw materials supplies, as well as the chair of the Association of Friends of the University of Stuttgart. Dr. Denner serves as Chairman of Supervisory Board at Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH. He studied Physics at the University of Stuttgart, taking his diploma examination in 1981. After a research spell in the U.S., he was awarded a doctorate in Physics (Dr. rer. nat.) by the University of Stuttgart in 1985.

Denner has spent his whole career with Bosch. In 2012, when he was head of research and engineering, beat out auto parts chief Bernd Bohr to replace incumbent Franz Fehrenbach in a move that made him only the seventh CEO since Bosch was founded in 1886. 

During the Hannover Messe in April 2016, Volkmar Denner was among the 15 German CEOs who were invited to a private dinner with President Barack Obama.
